Position: Machine Operator

  • Perform basic sewing and cutting tasks on automated and manual industrial machines
  • Perform other non-routine tasks which may include but not limited to grommets, snaps, drills, marking, clip and turn and heat press, cuts & pulls component pieces using basic cutting tools
  • Ability to read & follow basic sample/product instructions
  • Machine set-up using proper tools and methods, setting stitches, needles and/or attachments
  • Conduct in-line inspections for quality purposes
  • Perform routine minor maintenance on sewing and cutting equipment


  • Minimum grade 10 and/or proven work experience
  • 10 months to 1 year of related work experience operating a sewing machine; training will be provided
  • Must have flexibility to work various shifts

  • Must have basic math skills and ability to use both metric and standard measurements

Position: Production Manager

The Production Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all manufacturing processes and building and equipment maintenance.As a key team member they will assist in developing and fostering the Company’s cultural vision and will support the organizational effectiveness and continuous improvement strategies and action plans.This hands-on position will assist in planning, organizing and controlling all production activities to ensure goods are manufactured efficiently on time, to standard and meeting monthly revenue targets.         


General Responsibilities:

  • Assists leadership with the efficient operation of all departments (i.e. sewing, cutting, CAD, inspection, maintenance,and shipping and receiving
  • Oversees the day-to-day supervision and work scheduling and coordinates with supervisory staff to ensure a balanced flow of work from department to department
  • Identifies and deals with workflow problems, liaising with staff to correct difficulties arising on the floor
  • Identifies and makes recommendations in regards to continuous improvement and monitors machine usage and maintenance status
  • Ensures that all production levels are on target with weekly and monthly revenue targets and reports any deviations to leadership as they happen and provides recommended corrective action
  • Reviews the production schedule daily and as required throughout the day to ensure orders and labor minutes are being maximized to ensure targets are met; disseminates the necessary paperwork to each department for information and/or processing
  • Monitors and coordinates with supervisory staff to ensure production throughout the day is running in-line with the production schedule
  • Applies methods and procedures to operations as per established company policies, procedures and accepted practices
  • Liaises and coordinates with management and other departments to maximize overall effectiveness and efficiency
  • Ensures health and safety policies and programs are adhered to
  • Sits as on the Health and Safety Committee as Management Co-Chair
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Staffing and Employee Relations:

  • Conducts regular production meetings to review scheduling progress and discusses any concerns or new ideas, including training, team building, cross training of operators and assess overall morale
  • Identifies, reccommends and assists with human resource requirements, remplyee hiring, training, performance evaluations, setting of staff and department objectives and terminations
  • Promotes and enhances a positive team environment, including efforts to establish and maintain high levels of employee involvement and communication


  • Ensures all plant assets are properly managed and maintained


  • Maintains respectful communication with co-workers and surpervisory staff
  • Familiar with the Company's ISO Quality policies/processes and understands the impact of this position ont he competitiveness and performance of the company
  • Trained int he requirements of NIJ Standard-0101.06 Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor and to facilitate confirmity to the NIJ Body Armor Compliance Testing Program specifications
  • Complies with and follows Health & Safety policies and programs



  • 4 year degree in a related discipline and/or acceptable work experience may be considered
  • 10-15 years production experience, preferably in a textile manufacturing environment
  • 5 years specific experience in a Production Manager role


  • Thorough knowledge of cut and sew industry particularly in an law enforcement or defense environment
  • Experience and knowledge of plant management, systems, productivity measures, departmental budgeting, quality assurance, facility maintenance and safety
  • Strong leadership, organizational skills
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, clear understanding of cost of goods sold, profit/loss and balance sheet relationships and well developed analytical and reasoning skills
  • Experience working in an ISO certified organization
  • Proven supervisory, organizational and leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate production staff and deal effectively with people
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced team environment with changing priorities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, must be able to work with all levels of staff
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently when required or as part of a team
  • Excellent people management and reasoning skills
  • Forward thinking, proactive and results oriented; outside the box thinker with Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing knowledge
  • Ability to travel to Canada is a must for this position
  • Good understanding of current employment and health and safety legislation
  • Strong computer skills


Work Environment:

  • Normal office work environment with the freedom to stand, sit, walk and stretch as necessary
  • Clean work environment, typical of a manufacturing facility
  • Some travel may be required

  • Fast-paced manufacturing/plant environment with considerable stress
  • This position faces strict deadlines with conflicting demands and changing priorities


Direct Supervision Given:

  • Supervises both direct and indirect employees
  • Assists in setting and monitoring standards of performance and establishing general production policies and procedures
  • Coaches, mentors and provides advice and guidance to supervised employees and performs performance appraisals; assists in hiring, disciplining and terminating supervised employees

Functional Advice:

  • Provides advice and reccomendations to senior management and other department managers regarding new or changed production policies or procedures
  • Interacts with Sales, CSR, Materials, Finance, HR staff, etc.


  • Moderate independence of action; qorks quite independently and is guided by policies and management direction


  • Considerable impact if errors are made as decisions have an impact on major function of organization
  • Safety is of some concern


  • Considerable use of confidential data in the performance of the job is required

  • Interacts with production staff, direct reports and other personnel from other PSP departments including Customer Service, Materials, Sales, Finance, Quality and HR
  • Contact with senior levels of management which requires tact and judgement; may be required to present material which is controversial, considerable interpersonal skills are required


  • Contact with external parties requires tact and courtest, primarily in exchanging information


  • Little physical effort and basic keyboarding skills
